A suitable guard can keep many leaves and twigs out while allowing rainwater into the gutter. The result depends on the guard design, nearby trees, roof runoff and installation.
What they do not fix
Guards will not correct a damaged gutter, poor slope, too few outlets or a blocked underground drain. Those issues need to be assessed separately.
Maintenance still matters
